Helping children to grow and thrive

Children grow and develop at different rates. It is important for parents to know how their children are growing and reaching important milestones. First 5 San Diego’s Healthy Development Services provides free developmental checkups for children birth through 5 years of age, and connects children and families to needed services. First 5 Healthy Development programs provides the following San Diego family health care services:

• Newborn home visits to all first-time parents
• Healthy Development check-ups for all children 0 through 5 years old
• Vision, hearing, growth, speech and language, and behavior services
• New parenting resources for families raising children with special needs, and daycare and preschool teachers
• Referrals to programs to help new parents, pregnant women, and their families stop smoking
